Today was the 9th Annual Run@Work day. I've sort of been thinking about trying to run at lunch at work and today seemed like the perfect time to give it a shot. Winter is on the way and lunch is 1) the warmest part of the day and 2) not dark. So, this morning I packed up my running clothes and mapped out a route.
I'm trying to push my mileage, so I split my workout into two segments with a half-mile walk in the middle to help me recover. I did 1.5 miles, walked a half mile for a break, did another 1.5 miles and then a half mile cool down. It worked because I added two miles to my total distance and did a full mile more of running than I have before in a single session. I totally screwed myself once before by trying to add too much too fast, so I am working on listening to my body and knowing when to stop. I probably could have run the last half mile of the route, but I am hiking on Saturday and Sunday and don't want my legs to be completely dead.
I also learned A LOT about what I need to do in order to have a better system in place to make this work. Trial and error, right? I'll put together a list of my tips for next week. In the meantime, it was a good thing that I ran because it is also cake day at work. So, post run I got to have a nice lunch of chocolate cake and strawberry cheesecake. That's healthy, right? Yep. Thought so. I was also super dehydrated and hot (my cheeks are still 5 shades of red), so I picked up a cold Chia Squeeze to help me recover. I think I'm liking these, so I'll write a review sometime soon.
Have a happy Friday!
